Something beautiful for today

26/02/2014. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: , .

Spend just a moment a day to stand still and have a good look around you. There are so many amazing things in life. Anything from great gadgets and stunning architecture to ever-intriguing animals.

Spend a moment whatever the weather. Snowing right now? No two snowflakes are alike (due to the estimated 10 quintillion water molecules which make up a snowflake). Even so, as they say, if you’re looking for it, you’ll find it. Look for something nice today. Something beautiful.

You can even google for something beautiful. Think about anything – just add the word “beautiful.” Such as beautiful car, beautiful house or beautiful animal.  Read more…

Leaner, Meaner 2014

01/01/2014. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: .

All gone! 2013 is gone and dusted. Came and went in a flash, didn’t it? Or, sadly, in a bang in many places as wars in Africa and the Middle East escalated and suicide bombers continued to kill innocent people. Oh, how we wish that would end!

As predicted, 2013 was a big, big year. There were big bailouts but there also were some big positive moments: the new BMW R1200GS, KTM 1190, new line of Harley Davidsons, the new Indians, new iPhone, iPad Air, new Samsung Galaxy products, etc. 2014 will see even more new bikes, cars and gadgets – and they promise to be leaner and meaner.  Read more…

The silly soccer wars

17/05/2013. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: .

FIFA would like you to call it “the world’s most beautiful game” but soccer is marred with corruption, childish ear biting, hooliganism and even war.

Back in 1996 when England fell to Germany in a UEFA Euro game, riots broke out in Trafalgar Square. In 2007, four Bulgarian men bit off part of a Greek man’s ear after Greece’s 4-1 loss to Turkey in a European Championship qualifier.  Read more…

‘It’s Pretty Much Impossible’ To Protect Online Privacy

16/04/2013. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: , , , .

From online companies tracking users’ digital footprints to the trend for more and more data to be stored on cloud servers, Internet privacy seems like a thing of the past — if it ever existed at all. RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) correspondent Deana Kjuka recently spoke about these issues with online security analyst Bruce Schneier, author of the book “Liars and Outliers: Enabling the Trust Society Needs to Survive.”  Read more…

The Herbalife battle

12/04/2013. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: .

Multilevel marketing nutrition company Herbalife is in a battle but it is hardly embattled. They have an army of 3,1 million representatives stationed in 84 countries. One would presume it to be a healthy army since most of the soldiers buy the products for self-consumption.

Herbalife is facing the conflict on an embattled battlefield, the New York Stock Exchange, where a general of the latter is accusing the former of being an $8 billion pyramid structure resembling a ponzi scheme.  Read more…

Offshore banking secrets

In 1726, Daniel Defoe wrote, “Things as certain as death and taxes, can be more firmly believed.” Many others have quoted it since, so often that one would have thought that the only inevitable occurrences in life are death and taxes.

Alas, tax havens have allowed many individuals, banks and corporations to dodge paying taxes, leaving the bill to the less fortunate.  Read more…

Why global warming is not good for you

15/03/2013. Category: Raves & Rants. Topic: .

Why is global warming not good for you? Well, look what happened last time! The last period of global warming was in the time of the dinosaurs and it probably was global warming that wiped them out.

Then again, global cooling is not good either; that’s what led to the extinction of the Neanderthals. Some living beings live just fine in really cool climates but the type of food we humans like can’t be grown in icy conditions.  Read more…

What a game! Super Bowl XLVII delivered the thrills and spills millions of NFL fans dreamt of. And then some. At 4 hours, 14 minutes, it was the longest Super Bowl ever and packed with new records.

KTM 1190 Adventure R

2013 could be a big year. Big budgets, big bailouts, big wars, big people and big beauties. Even the tablets and the mobile phones are getting bigger. Toshiba has already launched the 13-inch Excite and Lenova has the massive 27-inch table tablet. Samsung has the big 5.3-inch Galaxy Note smartphone and Huawei has the 5.5-inch Ascend Mate.

Big budgets in the form of huge tax relief programs and deferred tax credits for banks and corporations made possible only by aggressive austerity measures. “Rob Peter to pay Paul.” 2013 will likely be a big bonus year for bankers.  Read more…

The world did not end on the December, 21 2012 as the Mayan calendar predicted! To start with, that was a good end to the year.

2012 had many highs. To the delight of all animal lovers, “an international group of prominent scientists” had finally “discovered” what we all knew since childhood and declared that “humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness.”  Read more…
