Taylor Swift vs Apple Music

Apple Music launches on June 30th and the intention was to provide a three-month free trial offered to subscribers, the subscription fee being $9.99 per month. Taylor Swift reacted promptly:

“We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.”

It looked like this was going to be an interesting battle. But Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, reacted swiftly. He tweeted:

Taylor Swift’s argument was that Apple had enough money to cover the cost of the trial. (Apple has almost $200 billion in cash and cash equivelants.)

Cue heard the call and followed up:

Swift’s reaction was to thank here supporters:

Taylor Swift has more than 59 million Twitter followers. That’s a big platform to speak from.

So, all is fine. No blood but all the glory. Apple Music subscribers will get their 3 months worth of trial music and the artists will get paid.
