Facebook-Google social tiff

Google’s Social Circle is a pretty nifty service for those interested in seeing information about friends and friends of friends. Simply sign in to your Gmail account and spy away to your delight. You might discover some amazing gossip, perhaps even about yourself. This is private data no-holds bar available publicly.

Which is what Facebook is making noise about too. Facebook hired PR firm Burson-Marsteller to spread the nasty about Google’s privacy policy, never mind their own piffy privacy policy (as exposed by the Wall Street Journal). So, we have 2 social media giants, both with questionable privacy policies, having their own social face-off on where else but social media hangouts on the web and mobile social networks.

The Daily Beast calls the latest Facebook-Google social tiff “Facebook busted in clumsy smear attempt on Google.” Computer World claims “Facebook-Google ‘cold war’ suddenly gets hot.” There are hundreds more reports and where better to look them up at than at, yes, Google.

Who will win? No-one. Social media web services and search engines already know more about you than you think. Almost as much as the infamous, much-hated RapLeaf knows about you!

The morale of the story? If you have a tiff with anyone, DO NOT mention it in an email, on a social service, forum or blog. In short, just keep the peace. If you can’t love your neighbor like yourself, just ignore him/her.

Have a great day!
